Chryssi Akti - Golden Beach
Golden Beach or Chryssi Akti is located around 2 km to the West of Chania. The main beach is a very organized beach with all amenities. Aptera beach which is more or less the same beach but closer to Chania is quieter.
Type of beach: fine golden sand beach
Size of beach: the main beach is a little over 500 m long. Further to the East (closer to Chania) the beach continues for around 800 m.
How busy: Chryssi Akti is the main Chania beach and is very popular with locals so it can get very busy at weekends and on holidays. But the beach is long and wide so you can avoid being crammed.
Winds: well protected from west winds but can be affected by north wind.
Facilities
Sunbeds and umbrellas, a few cabins to change, a few showers, life guard
Safe for children: very safe. The water is shallow and generally not many waves.
Car parking: free parking along the beach
Getting there
A short drive from Chania. Public buses go there too. You can also walk to the beach from Chania following the coast in around 30 minutes.
