Cistus creticus (Cistus incanus subsp. creticus) is widespread in open woodland, maquis and phrygana from sea level up to 1300 metres. This evergreen shrub can reach up to 1m in height and is easily recognized by its large pink-purple flowers. Despite its 'creticus' name it is not an endemic flower.
