Prunus prostrata, commonly known as Prostrate Cherry, Mountain Cherry or Cretan Wild Cherry is a deciduous creeping shrub found on rocks in alpine and sub alpine zone (above 1300 m). It grows hugging the rocks so tightly that is is rarely taller than a few centimeters and is very noticeable during the flowering period (April to June) where it forms carpets of whitish-pink flowers.
It later grows small edible cherries (in August and September).
