Ranunculus veronicae was discovered in 1998 by Niels Böhling. It is a small flower related to Ranunculus subhomophyllus. It flowers in February and March. The only known population is under a plane tree (Platanus orientalis) near the village of Kambos above the West coast of Crete. Not surprisingly considering its very restricted habitat it is listed as endangered in the Greek Red Data book.
